Science Popularization - Comparison of Four Mainstream Spinning Processes

Release time:2026-04-03

Sailo spinning, ring spinning, vortex spinning, and air flow spinning are mainstream spinning processes in the textile industry. Due to different principles and structures, there are significant differences in yarn characteristics, production efficiency, and application scenarios.

Ring spinning is the most classic mechanical spinning process, in which the coarse yarn is stretched and then twisted into yarn by high-speed rotation of the steel ring along the steel collar. Its yarn fibers are arranged in a spiral shape, with a tight structure, high strength, uniform dryness, moderate hairiness, soft and full hand feel, suitable for various raw materials such as cotton, wool, and synthetic fibers, and suitable for spinning high count yarn. It is mostly used for high-end shirts, fine spun fabrics, denim, etc., but the spinning speed is slow, the efficiency is low, and the energy consumption is high.

Sailo spinning is an improved process of ring spinning, which uses two coarse yarns fed in parallel, stretched and twisted together to form a double stranded structure similar to strands. The yarn structure is more compact, with less fuzz, high strength, and good wear resistance. It combines the softness of single yarn with the stiffness of strands, and is commonly used in knitted and woven fabrics of wool and cotton, with high cost-effectiveness.

Vortex spinning is a new type of air-jet spinning, in which the cotton strips are directly fed into the stretching process, condensed and twisted by vortex negative pressure, forming a skin core structure. The spinning speed is 4-5 times faster than ring spinning, with a shorter process and higher yield. The yarn has less fuzz, a smooth surface, and excellent wear resistance, but its strength is slightly lower than ring spinning, making it suitable for medium and low count yarns.

Airflow spinning relies on high-speed airflow condensation and twisting inside the rotor, and belongs to free end spinning without components such as spindles or wire rings. Its production is high, the process is short, the cost is low, the yarn is fluffy, has many feathers, and has a rough hand feel. It is suitable for coarse yarn and has strong adaptability to short staple raw materials, but the yarn strength is low and the dryness is slightly poor.
