Yarn twist refers to the number of twists per unit length of yarn, which is one of the core process parameters in industrial fabric production. It directly determines the physical properties of yarn and thus affects the usage characteristics of industrial fabric. There are significant differences in the application of yarns with different twists in industrial fabrics. Twists that are too high or too low will deviate from the usage requirements of industrial fabrics and need to be accurately matched according to the product's purpose.
The core characteristics of low twist yarn are softness, weak grip, and easy splitting and fuzzing of single yarn. In the weaving process, low twist yarns and warp yarns are prone to fuzz caused by the friction of the reed, increasing the breakage rate and reducing weaving efficiency. However, if used for industrial fabrics that require high breathability and low stiffness, low twist can preserve the gaps between yarns, improve the breathability and filtration performance of the fabric surface. Industrial fabrics made from low twist yarns have a soft hand feel and good flexibility, making them suitable for scenarios that require repeated bending. However, the finished product has poor tensile strength and wear resistance, and the yarn is prone to slipping off the fabric surface, making it unable to withstand high load tensile forces.
Medium twist yarn is the most widely used twist type in industrial fabric applications, with a moderate twist count that balances the yarn's grip, strength, and softness. This type of yarn has a tight grip, is not prone to yarn splitting and fuzzing, has a low breakage rate during weaving, and has excellent processability; The industrial fabric produced has balanced comprehensive performance, with good tensile fracture strength, tear strength, and dimensional stability. The surface of the fabric is flat, with minimal fuzz and moderate wear resistance. Can meet the strength, weather resistance, and stability requirements of conventional scenarios.
The high twist yarn has extremely strong yarn holding force, high single yarn strength, excellent anti splitting ability, and is not easy to fuzz. However, the stiffness of the yarn is greatly increased, the elasticity is reduced, and the hand feel is slightly brittle. During weaving, high twist yarns have high rigidity, small warp stretching deformation, and high fabric size accuracy, making them suitable for producing industrial fabrics that require high load-bearing, high wear resistance, and tear resistance. However, industrial fabrics made from high twist yarns have high stiffness, poor flexibility, and are prone to creasing and cracking after repeated bending. Additionally, the fabric surface gaps are small, resulting in a significant decrease in breathability. At the same time, high twist yarns increase yarn processing energy consumption and production costs.
The selection of yarn twist in industrial fabric production should be based on the product's intended use. At the same time, it is necessary to comprehensively adjust the weaving process and post finishing requirements to ensure that the yarn twist is highly matched with the usage requirements of industrial fabrics, maximizing the product's value.
