Characteristics and shortcomings of using different types of heavy industrial fabrics

Release time:2026-03-11

The weight (g/㎡) of industrial fabric directly determines its performance and applicable scenarios. The industry is usually divided into three categories: light, medium, and heavy. The three have significant differences in usage characteristics and shortcomings, and are suitable for different industrial needs.

Light industrial fabric has a lightweight and flexible texture, is easy to cut and fold, has low unit cost, good breathability and permeability, and is suitable for large-scale use. But its shortcomings are obvious, its physical strength is low, its wear resistance and impact resistance are weak, it cannot withstand heavy pressure and high tension, it is prone to damage and deformation, and its impermeability and anti-corrosion properties are poor without post-treatment.

Medium sized industrial fabrics balance strength and flexibility, making them the most adaptable category. They can achieve multiple functions through post-treatment such as coating and dipping, with strong folding resistance and high cost-effectiveness. The shortcomings are that the strength is not as strong as heavy-duty fabric, it is prone to damage under overload, the flexibility of high weight models decreases, the processing difficulty increases, and the temperature resistance is average when not reinforced.

Heavy industrial fabrics have strong physical properties, excellent tensile, wear-resistant, and corrosion-resistant abilities, dense structure, stable dimensions, and can withstand heavy pressure and harsh environments. However, it has a thick and heavy texture, poor flexibility, high transportation and storage costs, requires specialized equipment for processing, high unit costs, and is not suitable for lightweight demand scenarios.

In summary, the selection of industrial fabrics should take into account the performance characteristics corresponding to weight, balance usage requirements and shortcomings, and achieve scene adaptation and cost optimization.
