The influence of density on padding

Release time:2025-11-28

The density of the pad fabric, as a core physical parameter, directly determines its structural compactness, mechanical properties, and applicable scenarios. Pad fabrics with different density ranges exhibit significant differences in practical applications. Density is usually measured in terms of the number of fibers per unit area or gram weight (g/m ²), and changes in its height can trigger a chain reaction of key properties such as breathability, wear resistance, and support of the mat.

The fiber arrangement of low-density padding is loose and the porosity is high. The core advantage of this type of padding is excellent breathability, allowing air to freely penetrate through the fiber gaps. However, the loose structure also brings obvious shortcomings: poor wear resistance, easy pilling and damage due to long-term friction, insufficient support, difficult to withstand heavy object compression, weak deformation resistance, and easy wrinkling or relaxation after use, which is not suitable for high-frequency use or load-bearing scenarios.

Medium density padding is the mainstream choice that balances practicality and adaptability, with moderate fiber arrangement and density. It achieves a balance between breathability and support, meeting the breathability requirements during use while also possessing certain wear resistance and deformation resistance, making it less prone to wrinkling or damage. This type of padding has the widest application range and can cope with moderate strength wear and tear, with outstanding cost-effectiveness.

The fibers of high-density padding are tightly interwoven and have a solid structure. Its biggest advantage is excellent mechanical performance, with strong wear resistance, tear resistance, and support. It can withstand long-term compression or high-frequency friction of heavy objects and is not easily deformed or damaged. However, the high-density structure also leads to poor breathability, which can easily cause a stuffy feeling during use. The material is also hard and has a lower tactile sensation compared to medium and low-density pads. At the same time, the production cost is higher and the price is relatively expensive.
